I upgraded my 2017 MacBook Air, and I was WRONG. Benchmark tests don’t show the real-world performance of an upgrade. I decided to compare my MacBook Air (2017) against my maxed-out M2 Pro Mac Mini (2023), and I was left shocked. The M2 chip offers far superior CPU and GPU performance, but I found it didn’t make a huge difference to my performance at University. For most applications, the upgrade made a small difference, helping me to save a few seconds, and be able to do slightly more. With my ADHD, extra efficiency is important. However, the Intel 2017 MacBook Air performed really well in all real-world tests and I feel I could’ve waited until next year, when the M3 comes out. In this video, I’ll share my strategies for getting the most out of your mac at University, and not having the same regrets by upgrading too soon.
