Running iOS Apps on an M1 MacBook Pro



In which I show Envision AI and BlindSquare GPS apps running on an M1 MacBook Pro.
I’m told that, if you’re sighted, the experience isn’t quite as interesting perhaps, but as someone who’s completely blind, the experience really isn’t too dissimilar from running these apps on my actual iPhone.
If you’ve ever navigated an iOS app with VoiceOver and a bluetooth keyboard, this won’t be unfamiliar to you I suspect. It can take a little getting used to, but it’s intuitive enough after a little exploration.

Running a GPS app like BlindSquare on a Mac could be considered a little bit of fun, but it can still have some real-world applications, such as place simulation, getting GPS metadata out of images via the share-sheet, or looking up an address and even booking a cab from where you are, to where you’re going. If your phone isn’t quite near to hand at this moment, then BlindSquare is a quick and easy way to do these things. The only difference is, you’re doing so on a Mac.
